Organisers John Ditchfield – 01254 248178 and Joan Smith – 01254 247589The Club runs a popular Bridge League nearly every Thursday during the winter. At present over 30 members take part in very friendly, but competitive Bridge Each individual is awarded a handicap at the start of the season based on past performance and or level of playing ability and this is reviewed once during the season. We play Duplicate Bridge starting at 6.45 p.m. and usually are able to play 22 Boards before finishing at about 10.00 p.m. Gross and Net scores are recorded for each week and prizes are awarded at the end of the season for the pairs with the highest points scored in both categories. Only the best 12 scores of each pair through the season count for the league. As there are over 20 opportunities to play during the season, it is not essential to play every week to compete in the league. New players, individuals or pairs, are always very welcome and Social Membership of the Club is available at modest cost. Anyone interested should contact the organisers for more details. Holidays and sickness causing some problems this week, as we only had five and a half tables. However there was no shortage of interesting hands to be played, quite a bit of ‘over bidding’ went on but also some good scores achieved. Worthy of particular mention this week are Marion and Barbara who were second Gross and top in the Net League, Jack & Stewart also deserve a mention for an excellent Gross score, which saw them top of the Gross League, well done to them. Had a couple of problems which really were caused by not checking which boards were to be played and still the old problem of ‘Revoking’ keeps rearing its ugly head, could I remind everyone to check before they play a card or decide on which Board to play, many thanks in advance.
