Set in the heart of the Ribble Valley Wilpshire Golf Club provides a challenge to all levels of golfer, in a tranquil and beautiful setting.
However even the wayward golfer is rewarded at the 7th tee where you suddenly realise that the full glory of the Ribble Valley is at your feet, with majestic views to Blackpool Tower and the Fylde in the west and Pendle Hill and the Three Dales Peaks in distant Yorkshire off to the east.
At 5,843 yards and par 69 (ladies 72), the course is not long by modern standards but it has a pair of excellent par 5’s and five par 3’s, none of which are that easy.
The combination of parkland and moorland with the threat of challenging rough and a few water hazards can make a round interesting enough, especially for the player who is driving off-line.
Our course was originally designed by James Braid, who took full advantage of the varied terrain – the first six holes use trees and greenside bunkers to catch the unwary.
Holes 7 to 14 are played on the top of the moor where the grass is wiry and views magnificent. The 15th hole drops back to the greener and lusher parkland and the 18th passes the clubhouse where your friends stand on the balcony, refreshments in hand, watching your approach shot .. sometimes too closely!
